Abstract

The article "Loving Your Son" is a heartfelt reflection by Paul Neathery on the magical journey of raising his little boy. Before his son was even born, he felt a deep connection, penning a poem to express his love. The early years were filled with hard work, fun, love, travel, and teaching, all of which he cherished. As his son grows into an almost-teenager at 11 years old, the father continues to nurture him with less frequent but meaningful interactions, including emails and weekend outings. He acknowledges the bittersweet nature of watching his son mature, as he looks back at photos of his son's younger years with fondness and looks forward to creating new memories. I wrote a poem and loved my son before he was born. (click below)

Raising him through the beginning years was great.

Hard work, fun, love, travel, teaching — I loved it all!

Now he is 11 and not so little. He is almost a teenager.

I continue to raise him the best I can, though I see him less.

I email him and take him places for fun and learning on the weekends.

I am blessed that he is a good-natured boy who listens well to his dad.

I see his young pictures on the wall and smile from ear to ear remembering.

I now look at his 11-year-old face and try to make different memories.

Try to keep him growing, learning, and happy as much as I can!

Peace,
