Love Notes From Nature
September Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Comfort”
Do you love me? ___Yes ___No
Love notes like this swirled around elementary school classrooms in my day. They also included the option for, maybe, as they should. What do kids know about love?
When nature sends us a love note, how could we say, no? Almost everyone says, yes. But, do our actions always show our love?
We may feel a bit uncomfortable when asked about our actions regarding the love we show for nature. Are we regularly practicing earth-friendly habits?
As I hike and capture awemazing images of nature, that I will post to profess my love, am I carrying a disposable plastic water bottle? I am not. But, I have used a few in the past month. I could have planned better, and brought water instead of buying a plastic bottle, but I didn’t always. On my last trip to the grocery store, I forgot my reusable bags and opted for plastic. I noticed a lot of unnecessary product packaging move through my house last week. No. No. No.
It can be overwhelming to think about the multitude of ways we should be working to improve our carbon footprints. Especially when we realize our shortcomings. We all bear a heavy responsibility to be informed and act, to show our love for nature.
So, where is the comfort here? The September challenge is comfort. The love notes from nature, of course!
Heart shapes found in nature, like the leaves in the cover image, always bring me comfort. They remind me of all there is to love in the world.
Our relationship with nature, like all loving relationships, is filled with opportunities for grace, growth, and love. There is room to do better today than yesterday. That comforts me.
When you realize EARTH and HEART are spelled using the same letters, it all starts to make sense. — Unknown
