Love Is a Verb

It’s not just something you feel, it’s something you do.

Love is a verb. It’s not just something you feel, it’s something you do.

Love is the most powerful and beautiful of all emotions and feeling. Love can be expressed in many different ways: through words, actions, or even thoughts.

We can love by doing things for someone else or for ourselves, like taking care of our bodies and minds. Love is also about being kind and thoughtful to others.

We can show love by saying thank you or giving compliments to others. And we can love by forgiving others when they make mistakes or hurt us in some way.

I invite you to reflect on how you show your love, especially when life is so short we never know what tomorrow might bring.

As my children greet me in the morning, sliding by side with a “good morning, Mommy” and reach for my hand, I close the lap top and sit with them, taking a moment to be present, no matter how seemingly short I am on time.

I can arrive at the office 5 minutes later: spending 5 minutes being present with my child is what matters most in this moment.

Relationships are not always easy. But the good ones can be a joy to be in.

It is important to know what you want and need in a relationship, and how to communicate that effectively. Whether it’s the dynamic between spouses, parents and children, or friends, it’s important to remember that love is a verb, and not a noun, and a part of this action is in expressing one’s self.

Love is not just about feeling good all the time. It is also about making each other feel good, especially when we need an energy shift.

How do you communicate what you need from relationships and the people you love?

I often stay silent, not wanting to impose. In doing so, the love for myself becomes absent which is paramount when it comes to loving others.

When questioning your worthiness, I can assure you: YOU are worthy of love.

That love begins by looking in a mirror and appreciating the gifts you have you share because everyone has something to offer; that is the beauty of the human dynamic.

If you mirror is foggy and the reflection unclear, reach for a metaphorical cloth, soak it under the faucet and splash your face — feel the cool, refreshing perspective wash over you.

Because love is a verb. It’s not just something you feel, it’s something you do — and that something might be a little self care.

How do you express love — for others and yourself? Share in the comments as a tool for reflection and perhaps find some inspiration from others.
