Summary

The narrative describes a person's realization that the affectionate songs sung by a bird were not exclusively for them, but part of the bird's mating ritual, leading to a broader reflection on the nature of love.

Abstract

The author shares a personal story of a morning serenade by a bird at the Lignum Vitae tree outside their window, which initially seems to be a sign of love directed at them. The bird's melodies and attempts to draw the author closer evoke a sense of connection and happiness. However, upon attempting to meet the bird, the author witnesses the bird's interaction with a female bird, revealing that the songs were part of a mating ritual. This realization prompts a contemplation on the impersonal nature of love, acknowledging that the bird's affections were never singularly meant for the author, but rather part of a broader game of love that hearts play, igniting flames in various forms.

Opinions

  • The author initially believes the bird's song is a unique expression of love towards them.
  • The bird's actions, such as flapping wings and singing, are seen as romantic gestures that instigate love.
  • The author's perspective shifts when they realize the bird's behavior is a common mating ritual, not a personalized expression of love.
  • The narrative suggests that love can be misinterpreted as something exclusive when it is often part of a larger, impersonal pattern of behavior.
  • The author reflects on the nature of love with a touch of humor and irony, recognizing the bird as an "instigator" in the game of love.
  • The piece concludes with an acceptance that love is a shared experience, not something to be owned or claimed by an individual.

The Lignum Vitae tree at my window is home for many birds So, I get my serenade every morning, and I listened to every word I know his tune Because when I hear it, my heart would be immune To pain, but not to the instantaneous happiness I felt when he first cooed His tune instigated love While insulating me with beautiful melodies

He would flap his wings to lure me closer Then thrills me with a song Lifting my spirit higher and higher As I go along

So, this morning I decided to meet my suitor Who was instigating love to me I peek out through my window and imitated his tune He cooed right back to me, my heart swells like a balloon I ran out to meet him, He flew down on a limb Then flapped his wings in welcome Dancing to his own tune Then frolic from branch to branch Singing my favorite song As I reach out to touch him, she flew into my way And perched on the limb beside him Pushing my hand away He lifts his right wing and hugged her And started singing our song It was when my heart told me, that here I didn’t belong

The songs he sang every morning, wasn’t mine to claim Because love is a game Hearts played that ignite many flames

All this show and tell wasn’t for me You instigator you

When a male bird wants to mate, he does the craziest thing to attract the female bird. Not the female human. Lol. I hope you enjoyed reading this piece.
