Love And Happiness Surround The Aging Couple
Shadows Of Mayday #19: Joe and Mattie #3: Nothing could make them happier than seeing their children happy for them
Start reading here
They were quiet for a while, enjoying a second cup of tea, which Mattie had poured to calm her own excitement. They constantly glanced at each other, smiled and then looked away, only to look back at each other again.
The two of them talked about a lot of things that afternoon.
In the past two weeks, they hadn’t only thought about each other, but also about how they would tell their children they were in love.
Another thought was what kind of relationship they wanted. Would they want to live together or would each of them want to maintain a part of their own independence by living apart and having a modern long distance relationship?
They were in quick agreement.
If they engaged in a relationship, in time they wanted to live together under one roof. They were still old-fashioned enough to want to be together as husband and wife.
Their priority was to first get to know each other better in the next couple of weeks. If they still felt the same after spending lots of time together, the next step would be to tell their children. It was hours later that Joe left to go home. By then, the table was in Mattie’s home and he had helped her to create a nice and cozy corner where she could have her meals from then on.
Joe was insanely happy. He would see Mattie again in a couple of days, but before that, he had to go for dinner at his daughter’s place.
At home, Joe started on a new project: two chairs to match Mattie’s new table. She planned to use a stool to sit on when she had her meals, but he wanted her to be comfortable and he wanted to share some of her meals with her. The two chairs would be his surprise for her.
Joe sang and whistled all the time while he worked. Nothing could get him in a bad mood. It wasn’t like he actually had bad moods, but his mood was extremely positive since his last visit to Mattie.
The knowledge that she was in love with him too, made his heart sing.
He arrived at his daughter’s place two hours before dinnertime, just like he always did. He spent time with his grandson and then with his daughter in the kitchen while she cooked dinner. Several times, he saw her glancing at him in a strange way. She did the same at the dinner table and yet again after she had put her son to bed.
“What’s going on, Dad?” she asked.
“What’s going on with what?” Joe asked, not understanding her question.
“Who is she?” his daughter smiled.
“How did you know?” Joe came with a counter-question.
“You are different. Happier. You sing. You whistle. I haven’t heard you do that since mom died,” his daughter explained with a loving smile.
“Would you mind if there is a ‘she’ in my life?” Joe asked.
His stomach tightened as he waited for her answer.
“Oh Dad, no, of course not,” she laughed, “we talked about it a lot when you weren’t around. We would love you having someone special for yourself. You deserve to be loved again.”
She stood up to hug him and went to the kitchen to make them coffee. Joe stayed behind, staring out in front of him and thinking about how wonderful his children were. He hoped that Mattie’s children would accept a new man in their mom’s life as willingly as his children accepted a new woman in his.
The stars aligned for them to be together.
That was Joe’s thought when he visited Mattie again.
Since the last time they had seen each other, Mattie had invited her children over for tea. Just like Joe’s daughter intuitively knew her father was in love, both Mattie’s children knew their mom had something important to share for her to invite them both. She was adamant they had to come together.
Mattie’s children thought their mom would tell them she was seriously sick. The moment she opened the door, and they saw the twinkle in her eyes and the smile on her face, they knew: their mom was in love.
Relief flooded through them and they found themselves instantly and unconditionally happy for their mom, even before she said one word about her newfound happiness. Joe was ecstatic when he learned that none of their children would stand in the way of their happiness.
In the next months, Joe and Mattie got to know each other better, and met each other’s children and grandchildren. Since Mattie lived in a small apartment, all gatherings happened at Joe’s house, which was big enough to host everyone. They celebrated birthdays there, hosted several dinner parties together, and it didn’t take that long before Mattie barely slept in her own bed anymore.
Since Joe and Mattie were in the autumn of their lives, they wanted to be together as much as possible. They were still healthy and both of them had a healthy interest in sex.
Nevertheless, their first time was awkward and almost like they had never had sex before. They were clumsy when they lay together in bed for the first time. They bumped their foreheads when they wanted to kiss and fumbled with each other’s pajamas so much that they giggled childishly by the time they were naked at last.
Joe looked at Mattie’s naked body in the low light of the bedside lamp. The history of her life was written on her body. There was a scar on her tummy from an operation combined with faded stretch marks from her two pregnancies. Her breasts were not firm anymore and gray highlights showed in her pubic hair.
“You are simply beautiful,” he said as he bent down to kiss her.
Mattie’s arms went around Joe’s muscular body. Had she not known he was older than her, she would have thought she had a young hunk in her arms. The mere thought made her blush. She ran her hands down to his buttocks and those were as firm as the rest of his body, kept in shape by his hobby of making furniture.
Between them, his cock pressed against her leg. She shivered with delight.
“Are you cold?” Joe asked.
“No,” she smiled and giggled like a teenager, “I’m horny.”
“Now then,” Joe said with a grin, “let’s see what we can do about that.”
Mattie thought he would fuck her, but instead, he slipped his fingers into her.
“You first,” he said, “then me. I’m an old man, you know!”
Mattie understood. Joe’s fingers moved in and out of her at a steady pace. Her orgasm built slowly. It had been years since her last orgasm at the hands of a man and it didn’t surprise her it took longer. But she could still reach an orgasm, and she did.
Joe kissed her.
“Thank you,” Mattie said and hugged him.
He mounted her and slipped his cock inside her. It didn’t take him long to climax. Mattie had understood it correctly: age had gotten to both of them. Still, she was confident they would have a good sex life. She loved the kindness of Joe attending first to her needs, before his own.
They fell asleep holding hands.
The next morning, they made love again.
