Relaxation
Loose Muscles Save Your Day
Let go of the tension by relaxing; all will move quicker
Loose muscles tend to respond quickly.
When I was coaching baseball, we had a saying:
Loose hands, quick bat
At the beginning of each season, guys wanted to impress. They would tense up and squeeze the bat handle. They thought more muscle equals more power.
The problem is that since they were so tense, their muscles would move slowly, slowing down their bat speed and trying to connect to the ball.
"Loose hands, quick bat" was a mantra for them as they stepped into the batter's box. They held the bat loose until the bat started moving forward.
If they swung at a pitch, they had more control of the bat. As the bat went to connect to the ball, the movement was electric, and they would connect. Hard. Balls would fly off their quick bat.
The same works for you as a Medium writer (plus many other areas in life). How so?
Loose brain, quick words. No? I just made that up, but let's try it for a minute of seven. A few weeks ago, I talked about a writing mantra I use: Just Spill, where my two-step process in writing is 1. Just Spill (write) and 2. Clean-up (edit).
So let's try it. Start writing. Get close to the finish. Editing comes later. Write, write, write. Then, edit and polish. Just Spill, clean it up.
Just Spill, Clean it up
By the way, did you know you can go to story.new and — if you're automatically logged in on Medium — a new Write a Story browser window on Medium comes up?
Try it. And while you're there, write a story. (Remember: Just Spill, clean it up) Kind of like: Loose bat, quick hands.
When loose, your muscles will help you ease into things. Also, remember to breathe.
Thank you, friends and readers. Feel free to clap if you want to or leave a response. You can also subscribe to my posts and get an email when a story of mine gets published — it's free.
