And people are loving life

“Do you live alone?”

Why is this a popular question to ask someone? I understand if you are getting to know them for dating purposes, then it makes sense. Who wants to date someone with a house full of damn people, I digress.

If it is not this question, it is the question of “Why are you single?” Again, I digress.

I don’t understand why “living alone” is such a hot topic, even better I am not sure why people care. If the person who is living alone doesn’t seem to mind, why is this a concern for the rest of the world?

According to the Wall Street Journal, an estimated 35.7 million people live alone and the numbers are rising across the world according to an article by Our World in Data. After reading these numbers, I understand why living alone is a hot topic.

Living Alone

Living alone, or should we say in solitude, is not the same as being lonely.

Loneliness is a feeling or thought, where living alone is an action. A person can be lonely with a house full of people, at a concert, or in a grocery store. A person chooses to live alone-depending on the circumstance-as they please.

If a person wants live with someone they have many options such as house hacking (a real-estate method of making money by having a someone rent out rooms in their home) or they can have a roommate, notice these are choices.

According to Our World in Data, living alone has been growing because of status and wealth building due to the gig economy and people having higher job demands, therefore living alone is easier for some people to create more wealth. Go figure.

Benefits

The Huffington Post wrote a great article of 61 benefits of living alone, and I have to agree with many of them.

Living alone allows for a judgement free zone. When you get off, who wants to come home to a messy house made by someone else? It is better to come home to a house that is messy knowing you left it a mess.

Living alone allows for freedom to use the bathroom in peace and not worry about how bad it may smell. The best part about living alone is peace. A person can create their sanctuary in the manner they please without the opinions of anyone. People love that the fact that everything in their home is theirs.

There is a special feeling about owning your own shit and calling it yours.

Disadvantages

Living alone has disadvantages.

It is good to know your neighbors, at least be on speaking terms, because you never know when you may need them. Also, being sick and living alone don’t mesh too well together. However, you can call a family member or friend when needed. It is also a great idea to make sure someone, whether a friend or family member, has a key to your home.

Lastly, the world is a crazy place, so I recommend having an alarm. The disadvantage to having an alarm is they can be expensive to install and there is a monthly service fee, however your life should not have a price on it.

Conclusion

I know many people who live alone and they love life. They own their home or happily rent and enjoy the peace it brings. Data cannot lie either, apparently living alone leads to riches and it is the new way of life.

If the opportunity arises, try it, you may like it.
