A Perfect Model
A moment of quiet reflection as the world rages

It’s a good likeness. I like the goodness — Gracious me. Poised. Clear-eyed, purposeful, A perfect model Of self-possession.
Till darkness drops Its howling demons Pounding my womb with Poison.
You brushed my cheek And left, leaving A faint impression.

Years ago, Dale and I collaborated on a project to marry his art and my words, based on a series of stunning portraits he painted during his time in Kenya. I asked Dale this morning whether now was the time to revisit the project.
‘No politics, no drama, no commentary’, I said.
‘It feels just right’, he replied.
