Welcome to another brief article training. I’m glad you’re here. Let’s dive right in:
Listicles
Someone smarter than me took the word “list” and combined it with the word “articles” and came up with “listicles.”
Listicles are basically articles that provide you with a list of information. Think 10 tips, 21 ways, Best 5, etc. You’re delivering information in an article in list form.
Listicles get a bad rap lately as boring. I guess those people can keep thinking that while my students and I continue to do well with listicles.
Recently Cindy Bidar a friend and colleague asked me write an article about “boring” article titles that rock. I touched on listicles in that article and want to give you some examples here of listicles that are helpful and have done well.
But first a confession
But first I have a confession to make. There’s a part of my brain that still thinks like an adolescent. I blame it on 2 things:
- Having worked with teenagers most of my life. Still do…
- Those 7 concussions I had growing up (some say this explains a lot)
So when I see or hear the word “listicle” I think of the word “testicle.” This reminds me of the time in college when I was staying with my buddy Greg and his family in their Daytona Beach condo.
After a day of learning to surf and not drown, Greg and I went off to find some seafood. At that time on Hwy US1 in Daytona Beach, there was a drive-in theater with a giant marque right off the road. This week it was featuring the soon-to-be award-winning film “Tentacles.” But someone had snuck in and changed the title to “Testicles.” We were laughing so hard Greg almost ran off the road…
So here’s a list of my 5 best listicles that have done really well. These offer you 105 tips to build your business. And at the end of this article you can get 10 more tips:
