Life’s Embers

Poetry of stars: Jobim and Sinatra

Markus Spiske, rawpixel

The great expanse is lyrical vibrating magnetic notes tuned from stars’ sonar seeking life with hushed cosmic sighs, instruments of the wind sound the ether in sway though atmospheres swim to sing the seas with quiet chords, rock us in synergy ballad of stars on earth echo life’s embers in the key of energy

Notes: Inspired by “Corcovado” By Jobim, Getz & Gilberto and performed in English by Jobim and Sinatra as “Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars”.

Sinatra disciplines his voice here for the ethereal, melancholy quality of bossa. The lyrics (from which I borrowed the title) lend well to his repertoire and it’s wonderful to (re)visit a cosmic collaboration of Antônio Carlos Jobim and Francis Albert Sinatra.

I had already written a poem about the original sung by Astrud Gilberto, which spawned my inspiration for this entire challenge.

This, new poem reinterprets the song as an ode to the cosmos.

So, without further delay:

Written for the July Summer Music Challenge where I wrote a poem or story about bossa nova for 31 days. See below for all entries including Terry Barr’s 8 brilliant memoirs about summer and music:
