I typically wait for inspiration before I write. Lately, inspiration has been short. I don’t know if it’s because so much has been happening lately, taking up my mental space for writing. Coincidentally, while Medium has most writers focused on getting the Medium bonuses, I can’t even find the time to relate with many Medium articles to increase my chances.

What’s taken away my participation from the medium platform?

Wedding: I spent a chunk of May and June planning my wedding. There’s been so much to do and considerable money spent. It’s funny cos what I had in mind was a quiet wedding. I did not consider having those carnival-like weddings. Despite my choice, it hasn’t been easy. For starters, the runarounds have been by my husband, me, my brother, and my mum. My other siblings weren’t in town. For each part (I did the traditional, customary court and church), there have been stipulations, processes, and fees. It’s been so crazy that it would have been very hard to maintain a typical 9 to 5. Rubaiyat Rahman has asked me to write about cultural festivals from my state of origin. The wedding ceremonies might be my first point of call.

Job interviews: After my trip to West Africa, I resumed job hunting. Why? I had embarked on an expensive but necessary trip. I knew expenses would await me on my return. My last role as an intern in hospice care had ended. It was time to take up something new but paid. So in between prepping for weddings, I was also prepping for some high-stakes interviews. Based on feedback, I did well in my last oral interview but didn’t score well enough in the written tests. The search continues and perhaps time to think outside the box.

Health: I had battled some health challenges while in North America. I was dealing with unexplained weight loss and a host of other symptoms. So while planning my wedding and attending job interviews, I was also figuring out these challenges. All my test results have pleasantly surprised me. Many of them are complete opposites of what they were in North America. I am also proud to announce that weight gain has continued for me.

I am still puzzled by all the changes. As a scientist, my mind keeps probing and asking questions. The weather’s different for sure. My lifestyle is also different. My state of mind is different. Are these responsible? Perhaps, I really don’t know.

Husband: I met my husband through a common friend. We talked several times on the phone before I met him in person. I have invested a considerable bit of my time with him and his family.

Investments: As I embarked on this trip and without a regular source of income, I put some of my money in a few short-term investments. I also spent some time doing personalized marketing of wellness and weight loss programs.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this, but I must also confess that it has been challenging. There are too many scams going on and people are rather hard up and unwilling to part with their money.

There have been some other things going on but my life’s never been so busy that I don’t share at least one article a week on Medium. These past few weeks have been different. Let’s see what happens in the coming weeks and if the inspiration bug will bite soon. I pray it does.
