Life is Too Short to Skip Toast

Day 77: Simply loving our thoughts brings joy

Everything in moderation- that was something my grandma used to say. She loved to enjoy a great variety of things in life. She and my grandpa lived with us in a basement apartment in the lower part of our home. She always had a full cookie jar, and my brother or I would race home after school to grab a cookie for each other. It is one of my sweetest memories. Simply finding joy in things, loving who you are, what you like, and being grateful for the abundance that you have is what brings us true freedom in life. When we allow ourselves to love what we love, and others to find joy in what they love without judgment, that is the key to true happiness. Each day I am learning to trust more in myself as I explore the book Letting Go by David R. Hawkins, on my 100-day spiritual journey.

Instead of feeling pride about our thoughts, what is wrong with just loving them? Why not just love a certain concept because of its beauty, because of its serviceability? If we view our thoughts that way, we no longer need the pride of being “right.” -David R. Hawkins

I find it so freeing to just love our thoughts and concepts. I am no more right than anyone else. I just feel joy in what I love. I can let others think something else and feel joy in that. How beautiful the world is when we can let go of pride in our opinions.

Something that I have rediscovered these past few months is my love of toast with breakfast. There is something about it that brings me immense joy. We have found a bakery near us that makes real, wholegrain sourdough bread with local flour. What a delight to the senses!

In the past few years, I have explored many ways of eating. I tried many different combinations of foods, taking away some, replacing others. What I learned through all of it was to trust my body and my energy levels. No book, plan, or diet can replace the innate knowledge that my body has. I simply pay attention to what brings more energy to my body and what takes it away. I used to feel guilty for not liking certain foods, or ways of eating. Now I know that I can find my own joy in balance, and love what others choose to do.

What I love about finding joy in food is that it brings me so much daily happiness. Each meal is not only a way to nourish and fuel my body, but it is also a way to involve all of my senses and take in the abundance of the Earth. I can love how I eat, and I can love how others choose to eat. It is simple if we look at it in that way.

My prayer and my intention for you today is to love your thoughts. Know that they are yours to find joy in. You can love that others have different opinions and ways of being. They find joy in something else. That is beautiful!

How can you love your thoughts today?
