Licking the Hand That Feeds You
This was my entry into the NYC Midnight 100-word Micro-Fiction Contest. My genre was fairy tale or fantasy.

Once upon a time, a fairy princess placed a can of tuna in front of a stray cat and put a diamond-studded collar on the cat as if she were putting on pearls.
The cat held perfectly still other than eating the provided tuna in gracious gulps. It rubbed its chin and mewled against the princess’s hand and even licked her fingers as she buckled it.
Then, ran away into the night as if to say, “You can give me diamonds or pearls, but you will never tame me.” Some of us are meant to be free.
The end.
My genre was fairy tale or fantasy, the keyword I had to incorporate was “tame,” and the action was “putting on jewelry.”
This is Tina L. Smith’s entry.
She added, “This story was my entry to the 2021 NYCMidnight 100-Word Microfiction Challenge. The assignment was to write a 100-word story in the genre of romance in which someone/something crosses a bridge and using the word “phase” in the story. I’m staying tuned to see if I advance to the next round. (Romance is not my genre.)”
