Level up yourself — level up your life

When your opponent is your yesterday self

Have you ever heard about this concept of level-up? I am sure you have. It’s something we can see in games.

It is something that happens in League of Legends too. And please allow me to tell you some words about this.

In the game, leveling-up it’s a significant thing. And there are two situations when it’s crucial, when it’s time to do so or to happen.

1. In the League of Legends game, when your character is leveling up, you can access a new ability from those four that every champ has (or you can upgrade one of those, it depends on the moment of the game and your strategy).

Leveling up has a huge impact when you make it before your opponent because it gives you a bigger advantage and a power spike resulting in killing your opponent (and taking those 300 gold) if a fight between you both is happening.

This is why seeking to level up before your enemy is a good game strategy, sometimes resulting in winning your lane only because you are applying it.

How do I transpose this in real life?

Leveling up your life is a real thing. And you should make it. Strive for it whenever you can.

You are the character of your life. And like every character in the game, you have skills and abilities and you can unlock new ones or upgrade those which are impactful in different situations.

Your opponent is not anyone that’s in front of you. Or it could be. But I like to say that your opponent is your yesterday yourself. You have to become stronger than yesterday. Imagine leveling up every day; every day unlocking new skills or upgrading them.

“The only person you should try to be better than is the person you were yesterday.” — Unknown

Leveling up yourself and ‘killing’ your opponent — yesterday you — will determine leveling up your life. It’s like in the game. When you have a lead compared to your opponent, you have a very big chance to win the entire game and take those rewards.

2. In the game, there are situations when after a fight you are very low on HP, and because you have been trapped by a passive ability during the fight you are going to die. But something happens: you level up.

When you level up, your character’s stats increase, including your total HP. And now that you have more HP, you stay alive because the passive abilities went off. You recall in the base, regain your HP, and then continue the game.

This doesn’t happen a lot in the game. But when it happens, it’s very satisfying for you and very frustrating for your enemy.

How do I transpose this in real life?

There are moments in our lives that make us lifeless. We are almost at the limit. Our powers are gone. We don’t know anymore what to do. We let ourselves be hostages by ‘passive abilities’ — activated by the wrong people in our lives or even by ourselves.

But something happens.

And that ‘something’ makes us level up our lives. We still have some HP — we still have some hope. We see it. We then recall in our base, regain our HP — our powers; and then continue our lives, now more empowered.

In other words, leveling up your life includes getting through experiences and getting throw the things that happen in our lives, mostly tough ones.

This ‘level up’ thing, I like it a lot. And it’s not only about the game. It’s about what you become and what you can become when it happens.
