Summary

The web content advocates for the importance of taking time to do nothing in order to increase productivity and rejuvenate oneself spiritually and mentally, emphasizing the Christian perspective of staying connected to Jesus as the source of strength.

Abstract

The article "Learning to Do Nothing" presents a counterintuitive approach to productivity by suggesting that taking time to relax and do nothing can lead to a significant boost in one's ability to get things done. It is framed around a productivity poem that encourages readers to give doing nothing a try. The author shares personal experiences of how praying for help with tasks often results in a divine suggestion to take a pause and relax. This approach is supported by biblical references, where the concept of abiding in the source, which for Christians is Jesus, is seen as a way to be more effective in life's endeavors. The message is reinforced through the author's attendance at a church service with a sermon titled "Press Pause," which aligns with the overarching theme of the article. The piece also touches on the human tendency to rush through life, often neglecting the need for rest and divine assistance. The author emphasizes that by trusting in a higher power, one can be guided towards the right path and actions. Additionally, the article provides links to two other related pieces by the author, further encouraging readers to embrace moments of stillness for reflection and rejuvenation.

Learning to Do Nothing

A productivity poem

“Learning to do nothing

I’m doing pretty well

Give it a go

And see your productivity increase tenfold.”

Thank you for reading!

Whenever I pray for help to do all the things I need to do, I always get the same answer. Relax, do nothing for a while.

I no longer fight or resist it, as it reminds me that this is the way to get things done.

In the Bible, it means that we are to abide in the source, which for the Christian is, Jesus.

No matter what I do, I hear the same message. This time it is, rest, wait, rejuvenate.

And this was confirmed this morning in church, where the title of the sermon was, “Press Pause.” It couldn’t be clearer.

We are always in a hurry to move to the next thing. We get stressed and impatient thinking we have to do it all by ourselves.

But, we don’t. We have a God (Creator of the Universe) who wants to help us.

Below are two other short pieces I wrote when it was time to press the pause button.

We need to slow down so we can reflect and think about what to do next.

If we trust in the source, we will be guided.

Thank you Illumination for publishing my poem.
