Know Thyself
Thoughts and Tecqniques
One of the first and foremost questions of philosophy has always been — “Know Thyself”.

Finding your true self and inner calling is a journey towards self-discovery and understanding. It requires introspection, reflection, and self-awareness. In this blog, you will explore different ways to understand yourself better and to find your true inner calling.
Socrates said, “Know thyself”.
Vashistha said to Ram, “Listen to your inner voice. It never lies.”
But the big question always has been — how?
In this blog I have written down a point-wise distillation of the best possible wisdom that I have come across, to know myself.
So here goes …
- Take time for yourself
The first step in finding your true self is to take time for yourself. Create space in your life to dedicate to self-discovery. This may mean creating a schedule that includes enough alone time per day. I call it “Me Time”. This might mean reading your favourite book, take a walk through nature or simply sitting still — doing nothing. Whatever you decide to do with this time, make sure it brings you peace and joy.
2. Identify your values
Your personal values are what guide your decision-making. These are principles that are important to you such as honesty, integrity, or compassion. Knowing your values is crusial to discovering your true self, as it will help you determine what things really matter to you.
3. Explore your passions
What are you passionate about? What brings you joy and fulfilment? These are questions that can help identify your true inner calling. Exploring your passions can also help you discover new opportunities for growth and development.
4. Embrace your strengths and weaknesses
Understanding your strengths and weaknesses is important in self-discovery. Acknowledging your strengths can empower you to pursue your passions and goals, while recognising your weaknesses can help you identify areas for growth and self-improvement.
5. Reflect on your experiences
Reflecting on your experiences is another way to discover your true self. What lessons have you learned from your experiences? Raflection can be a powerful tool in gaining insight into your character and values.
6. Seek feedback
Asking others for feedback is a great way to gain insight into how others perceive you. Ask for constructive criticism and be open to the feedback you receive. This can help identify areas for improvement and growth.
7. Practice mindfulness
Practicing mindfulness can help you become aware of your thoughts and emotions. This can be done through meditation or simply taking a few minutes each day to focus on your breath. Mindfulness can help you become self-aware and in tune with your inner self.

8. Visualise your ideal self
Visualising your ideal self can be a powerful exercise in self-discovery. What does your ideal self look like? What values would you embody? This exercise can help you identify the kind of person you want to become and what steps you can take to get there.
9. Set goals and take action
Setting goals and taking action is crucial in discovering your true inner calling. Without action, goals remain nothing but mere dreams. Set concrete goals that align with your values and passions and take steps towards achieving them.
Conclusion:
Finding your true self and inner calling is a journey that requires introspection, reflection, and self-awareness. By taking time for yourself, identifying your values, exploring your passions, and embracing your strengths and weaknesses, you can gain insight into your true inner calling. Reflecting on your experiences, seeking feedback, practicing mindfulness, visualising your ideal self, and seeting goals and taking action can further enhance your self-discovery journey. Remember self-discovery is a lifelong open-ended process, so be patient with yourself and enjoy the journey.
