Kitties in Quarantine
Uma, Emerson, Bisou and Freyja have been working on their “isolation projects” and wanted to share them with you. What have your fur babies have been up to during quarantine?
It is week six of quarantine for the Burkhalter kitties. Uma, Emerson, Bisou and Freyja wanted to share with you how they are spending their days in isolation, and are curious how other kitties are doing during this time. Although life for them is not really so different than normal (except that Mom is not running off to teach yoga and Dad is working at home now) they have each developed some special “isolation time” projects to work on, and they wanted to share them with you and your furry babies. They’re curious how other cats are faring now that their humans are around all the time.
Freyja’s special project has been to train Daddy to slide precisely one treat at a time across the the dining room table to her. Dad has taken to this new routine with much delight, and seems to think (for some strange reason) that it was actually his idea. But the rest of us know better.
Uma has been working on her “mind-melding” skills to keep her humans pinned to the couch during nap times. Naps have been more difficult lately with the parents here, making noise and wanting to pet her all day long. But, how can we resist when she has a tummy this fluffy?
Emerson has been busy in the garden, working (or hmmmm…..sampling) some of his special “nip.”
Emerson is not the only one who enjoys tending to the catnip patch. Freyja and Uma also enjoy this delicacy and spend some time every afternoon in the garden, watching the catnip grow. And, boy those birds at the feeder are really fun to stalk too. It’s just too bad that Mom put that feeder up so high that we can’t get to it.
Bisou has been doing a lot of yoga lately. He also really enjoys the singing bowls and chimes. But he’s not too crazy about the gong.
He has been working on training Mom to stay on her end of the mat during practice, and he takes great delight in the new “yoga moves” which he has taught her (where she has to place her hands and feet “just so” in order to not disturb him while she’s practicing). Yoga is all about “non-attachment” to the pose, right?
Bisou has also been using his yoga “prowess” to improve his tree-climbing skills.
Bisou and Emerson are also exploring new career paths. Although they have always thought of themselves as “editors,” and can frequently be found in their cups next to mom’s desk, they have both been exploring the legal world lately. Emerson, in particular, seems to be taking to the role of paralegal. He really enjoys helping dad with his work.
Mom, however, thinks that Emerson is so handsome that he could be a cat model for one of those brands of cat food stockpiled in the garage. We may run out of paper products before this is all over, but we have about a three month supply of kitty treats, cat sand and food. Hey, we can go without, but the kitties???? Never!
