Just Take the First Step

How hard it can be to take the first step to get “started.”

I stare at the starting line, the first step, not knowing how to go on

I have my plans laid out, my goals set, my thoughts processed

I know that I know better, I know that I can do better

Yet I stare at the starting line like I did yesterday and the day before

But, today is different. It has to be

I am different today; at least, I want to be

How do I get started, make different happen?

I take the first step…and everything from yesterday doesn’t matter.

Only today does

I am writing this today as more of an affirmation to myself.

I, like many of you, especially in these days of challenges of health awareness, political processes, lifestyle changes, future thinking, and just general belief or disbelief in the future, have found it hard to take steps.

It isn’t that I don’t know where I want to go; I do. Yet, the map keeps changing. I keep changing, and living keeps changing.

Somedays, I think to myself that I should do what I did yesterday, and that will get me there. It isn’t that way anymore.

OK, then I plan a new method, a new process, a new way. That doesn’t work either.

It can be tough to make plans these days. To see progress versus standing still. To get ahead and make things happen.

For someone like myself, and perhaps for you, it can be hard not to see progress.

Not seeing progress when everything around us appears to be standing still, or worse yet, falling behind. I don’t want it to be that way, do you?

Yet, here we are, and if you are like me, you have to do something. You have to keep trying. You have to believe you can succeed.

So, that is where I am today. I am believing. I can succeed. You can succeed too!
