Just A Trick Of The Tongue

November Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Collecting Smiles”

Would she really eat this toadstool?

Would she? I admit it looks tempting and fresh, but it’s probably deadly poison — I have no idea. I’m not a mushroom/toadstool gatherer these days. But she’s a Labrador and it certainly looks tempting.

In all our adventures over the years, the Caped Crusader and I have encountered many toadstools and she’s never shown the slightest interest.

However, in the photo, she’s licking her lips extravagantly, looking like she’s about to demolish it in one gulp. I didn’t see this until I looked at the image. At the time, I was concentrating on two things: crouching to get a good shot and keeping my balance — the lead doesn’t show, but she was tugging on it, and that ground is muddy and wet.

Although she had nominally obeyed the command to stop, it was close to her mealtime and her ambition was to get home as quickly as possible for fear that another pack member would eat her share — she’s the only non-human member, so it’s unlikely.

The answer is ‘No’, she wouldn’t have eaten the toadstool. That extravagant tongue is just anticipating her evening meal, but the photo made me smile when I saw it.
