Summary

The undefined website presents a poetry prompt for the third week of July, inviting poets to write about a character from a movie or book they admire, enhancing the character's qualities and strengths through creative expression.

Abstract

The undefined website's content is centered around a creative writing challenge for poets. It introduces the "Lifeline Prompt" for the third week of July, which encourages participants to compose poetry inspired by a beloved character from a movie or book. The prompt suggests using one's imagination to strengthen the character's attributes, thereby deepening the connection between the reader and the character. The article emphasizes the importance of character development in storytelling, drawing inspiration from a quote by Helen Keller on the value of adversity in shaping character. It acknowledges the emotional investment readers and viewers have in well-crafted characters and the impact they have on us. The piece also provides submission guidelines for the Lifeline poetry publication and a call for donations to support the platform's poetry challenges.

“A character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.”

-Helen Keller

As a writer, characters are an important part of my life. One of the most crucial aspects of crafting believable fiction is developing a sense of your characters.

Characters in books and movies inspire us a lot. We can resonate with many characters in movies and books.

Anyone who has seen a compelling movie or read a compelling book understands that we deeply involve ourselves in the experience of living with those characters.

Since childhood, I love to watch movies. When I watched my favorite movie, I try to compare myself with the leading character. I am sure we all have done this in childhood. Isn’t it?

Character is not something that you buy; it is not a commodity that can be bartered for; it is not a quality suited for only the rich and famous; rather, character is built upon the foundational commitment of love, honesty, and compassion for others.

Creating a character in the mind is easy, but when it comes to developing it on paper it’s a difficult process. We have to define appearance, goals, personality, weaknesses, strengths, dressing sense, and so on. In nutshell, we have to give our character a voice so people can relate to it. Not just that, we have to create conflict and reveal the characters slowly as the story goes ahead. In addition to that, we have to give our characters a backstory as well.

It’s an art to create a strong and authentic character. Characters are the base of the stories. It depends on the characters and whether the story will hit or flop whether it’s a movie story or a book story. I am learning the craft of developing good characters for my novel.

This week’s prompt is,

Write a poem inspired by the character of the movie/book you liked. You can add more qualities and strengths to the character. In nutshell, you can use your creativity to make a strong character.

Do share the movie’s story and why you like it.

Imagine for yourself a character, a model personality, whose example you are determined to follow, in private as well as in public.
