Jr Gets His Karma
Sometimes you just get taken for a ride…
“Owatagoosiam, owatagoosiam, owatagoosiam,” Jr kept repeating as he walked circles around the house, “Owatagoosiam, owatagoosiam, owatagoosiam.”
“What in the world are you doing now?” Earnest asked as he walked out on the porch.
“Owatagoosiam, owatagoosiam, owatagoosiam,” Jr continued, “Tommy said if I say that enough I’ll get a new truck just like his. Owatagoosiam, owatagoosiam, owatagoosiam.”
“Tommy ain’t got no new truck,” Earnest remarked.
“Owatagoosiam, owatagoosiam,” Jr kept repeating. “Tommy said he had a new truck.”
“Did you see it?” Earnest asked.
“Owatagoosiam, owatagoosiam, owatagoosiam,” Jr continued. “No. Owatagoosiam, owatagoosiam, owatagoosiam,”
“Stop that!” Earnest shouted in earnest, “Get up here on the porch, I got something serious I need to talk to you about.”
“Yes Pa,” Jr answered as he walked to the porch. “Did I do something?”
Pointing to a chair Earnest said,”I talked to the sheriff a little while ago.”
“What about?” Jr questioned as he sat.
“He says he caught you gamblin’ and took you to jail.”
“On no, Sir” Jr exclaimed. “I wadn’t gamblin’.”
“Then what were you doing?” Earnest sternly asked as he sat down in the chair across from where Jr was seated.
“I was playin’ poker,” Jr answered.
“Well don’t play poker no more,” Earnest ordered as he got up and started towards the door shaking his head.
“Yes, Sir,” Jr answered. “Owatagoosiam…”
“And stop calling yourself a goose!” Earnest shouted in earnest.
A few days later, while on their way to town, Earnest and Jr saw Tommy walking down the side of the road. “See there,” Earnest pointed out as he pulled to the side of the road, “Tommy ain’t got no new truck, Tommy ain’t got no truck at all.”
“How ya’ doin,?” Tommy shouted as Earnest and Jr came to a stop.
“We’re fine,” Earnest answered.
“Can I get a ride to town?” Tommy asked.
“Sure,” Earnest replied, “but first you gotta prove yourself worthy.”
“How can I do that?” Tommy asked. Earnest could see he was confused.
“I tell you what,” Earnest explained. “I’ll give you twenty dollars and a ride to town if you can throw a rock further than Jr.”
“No problem,” Tommy laughed as he picked up a rock and threw it as far as he could. “Let’s see Jr top that.”
“Show Tommy how far you can throw a rock,” Earnest ordered with a sly grin.
“Sure Pa,” Jr excitedly answered, picking up a rock and throwing it at least three times as far as Tommy had thrown. “How’s that?”
“I guess I’m walking,” Tommy moaned as he started to walk away.
“Wait,” Earnest said, “you forgot about your side of the bet.”
“What’s that?” Tommy asked.
“I’m going to take you to town,” Earnest answered, “and you have to ride on the hood of the truck shouting, oh what a goose I am, to everyone you see while I drive you all over town.”
Jr just grinned.
