Journey Through July

Hot, hot, hot — it’s so hot!

Lovely, fluffy hot-red bottlebrush!

Next door has this enormous hydrangea bush. Every year it threatens to take over a bit more of the street.

Next door also has a rebel tortoise. Here she is (above right) making a break for it. She does that pretty regularly. She’s the only tortoise in the street so she wouldn’t get very far without someone knowing where she should be.

She sat in the bottom of her owner’s pond for several hours the other day and was perfectly happy. We have no idea how she could do that with no ill effect. I don’t blame her, though. It’s hot! Did I mention it’s hot?

I keep looking up about whether tortoises can stay underwater for very long and the answer is always ‘no’. Maybe she was tired of all the current politics and just hid down there breathing through a very long straw.

Hot pink roses, quite cool hypericum and royal lilies hot on the outside, cool on the inside.

It’s so hot we’ve had to alter our routine and move PupperJack’s main walk to the early morning before the air gets too hot; and before the pavements get too hot for paws.

The painting above has been on my drawing board for a couple of weeks already. It is coming along in miniscule increments.

Miniscule!

It’s awfully hot, though. Did I mention that?
