“A boat?” Jen’s voice broke the silence.

“More than that. A message,” Tom replied, pulling the blood-stained joker card from the vessel.

“The joker… he’s playing with us,” Jen realised, frustration boiling.

“Or providing the key,” Tom mused, scanning the pond’s serene surface.

“It’s all a game to him,” she sighed, her mind racing.

“But not one he’s won yet,” Tom assured, his confidence infectious.

Jen’s eyes sparkled with determination.

“Then let’s change the rules.”

They shared a nod, the card between them not just a clue, but a considerable challenge.

“Game on,” they whispered, unity in their resolve.
