I’ve Written 38+ Posts with Google’s Gemini. Here’s What I Learned

Your content will rank on Google if you know how to do it right.

If you’ve been following my journey on Medium, you might know I’m an SEO content expert who helps companies improve their organic presence.

However, that’s only one part of my job.

In addition, I’ve been consistently growing my personal website for a few years.

My website is my digital playground to validate my SEO hypotheses and find new strategies that work.

Otherwise, how can I call myself an SEO expert?

In this story, I want to share the insights from one of my experiments, which I’ve been conducting for six months!

Yap!

That’s how much time I spent using Google’s Gemini to support my writing tasks and measuring the performance of my content.

It’s worth noting that Gemini is Google’s descendant of Bard.

You might remember my posts about Google’s Bard and how much I disliked its performance compared to ChatGPT.

When it comes to content generation, no prompts could help you get decent and reliable data from Bard.

That’s why I stopped using Google’s AI chatbot for a while.

Instead, I’ve actively used Koala Writer to generate long SEO posts for my website and ChatGPT.

Both platforms worked well.

However, I wanted to explore more AI tools to speed up my content creation.

That’s why I started using Gemini after Google relaunched its AI chatbot.

In a way, I gave Google a second chance since I’m an active user of various Google tools, including Google Ads.

At first, I used Gemini to write content for my website.

However, soon after, Gemini became an essential tool for all my writing tasks.

Here’s what has changed.

Gemini’s content has become logical, conversational, easy to read, and human-like.

I might be subjective.

However, after writing 300+ blog posts, I know exactly how I want my and my clients’ content to sound.

And Gemini seems to deliver the content I need.

Note that I’ve only experimented with Gemini’s free version. In upcoming stories, I’ll share my insights about Gemini’s Advanced version.

Here’s what you can use Gemini for.

  1. Definitions

Gemini is exceptionally good at writing definitions and providing examples for better clarity.

All you have to do is use this prompt: Write 2 sentences explaining what [your term] is in simple words. Don’t use bullet points.

2. Provide comparisons to explain complex terms

I really like Gemini for its human-friendly comparisons.

It can explain complex terms in a simple way that even a child can understand.

In my example below, I use the following prompt: Explain what [your term] is in simple words with a comparison for better understanding. Don’t use bullet points.

However, Gemini often includes comparisons without you even asking.

3. Finish your thoughts if you are stuck

I occasionally experience writer’s block.

That’s normal.

However, it shouldn’t prevent you from writing, especially if your deadlines are strict.

That’s why I came up with the following prompt that quickly provides writing ideas if you are stuck.

Prompt: Finish this sentence: [Start a sentence or include a phrase]

How to quickly finish a sentence with Gemini if you are stuck.

I have many more prompt ideas to share.

I’d probably need a separate post on this topic to share all my ideas. I’m sure you’ll find them helpful while creating content with AI tools.

However, that’s not all I wanted to share.

I’ve learned one more thing after experimenting with Gemini.

Gemini’s content can rank high on Google but with a twist.

Contrary to some beliefs, AI-generated content can rank well on Google.

Many people dislike this fact.

However, we can’t stop the technological progress.

We will see more and more AI-generated content in organic and paid search results.

However, there is a big difference in the quality of that AI-generated content, which impacts how well the content will rank.

Here’s how my latest article created with Gemini performs on my website:

How my article about SEO newsletters performs on Google.

Here are the results of one of my former clients who decided to rely heavily on AI-generated content.

Even though I’m against creating content entirely with AI, it seems to work well for them.

Organic traffic growth chart from Semrush.

Does it mean you can achieve similar results with AI-generated content?

No.

That’s because how you write and where you’ll publish your content differ!

Even though Google explicitly said it’s not against AI-generated content, it’s smart enough to get if you use it to manipulate rankings.

Don’t do it!

Instead, do this:

  1. Write for people
  2. Use SEO optimization techniques (I outlined them in my SEO ebook)
  3. Follow Google’s E-E-A-T content quality requirements
  4. Add personal stories and unique experiences
  5. Build a personal brand
  6. Get backlinks from reputable sources

This will help your website grow even if you publish just a few content pieces per month. I assure you!

In conclusion

AI can be your true friend if you know how to use it.

I firmly believe that focusing on your niche and adding value to your content will help you grow your website in organic search results, even if you use AI-generated content.

Why am I so confident?

I’ve been effectively doing it for the past years.

The best thing we all can do is learn how to leverage it effectively to improve our lives.
