I’ve Done It Before, but Today is Different

How to move forward when you are standing still.

Photo by Luis Chacon on Unsplash

I’ve done it before

I do it every day

I have been doing it for years

Yet, for some reason, today is different

I know that I should plan

I know that I will have to

I know that I want to

Yet, I can’t seem to do it

Moving forward is inevitable.

You have to do it.

You know you want to do it

Yet, sometimes, you just can’t

What do I do next?

How do I start?

Where is my momentum?

Why can’t I do this?

I know what is holding me back.

Is it really that I am scared?

Maybe I am just tired; that is what it is surely

But is it?

Only time will tell, won’t it?

Why This Poem Now

I woke up this morning struggling with getting going. I am sure that has happened to you as well. Yet, this morning, it was different.

Plans need to be made. Task lists are completed or, in many cases, started. Movement, any movement, needs to happen as time is running out.

Yet, with all this knowledge, standing still seems easiest. It has been that way for a while. Why is that? I am still trying to figure it out.
