It’s the Little Moments that make Gardening Big

It’s often the little moments in the garden that make the biggest impression on the home gardener.

This morning I went to my Permaculture garden to harvest some ingredients for homemade Spring Rolls. I happened to see a butterfly on a Paper Daisy. I was thrilled! I ran for my camera and ran back. It was gone. Sadness. NO, it was still there! On the Peach Blossoms! Oh rapturous thrilling moment!

Endangered? No. Rare? No. So common it even has common in its common name! Why thrilled? Beautiful colours? Not especially… but look closer. How exquisite is its patterning? How fascinating are its eyes? How amazing is its long, straw-like proboscus that helps it sip nectar? How delightful is the Peach Blossom it explores?

Those small moments of connection are what keeps me gardening. What joy to feel that one is supporting amazing creatures like the Common Crow Butterfly even in the smallest ways!
