It’s Not About Actual Roses

Six Word Photo Story Challenge: Freestyle

Sixty-five roses. Better than a bunch.

Rotto thinks roses smell great.

He might be a tad biased. He thinks EVERYTHING smells most excellent. Even the stinkiest things.

But when it comes to roses — bunches of roses — sixty-five is the magic number. Sixty-five roses are a symbol for raising awareness about Cystic Fibrosis.

There are many versions explaining the link between Cystic Fibrosis and roses. They all centre around one key point. A young child couldn’t pronounce Cystic Fibrosis and said “sixty-five roses” instead.

May is the national awareness month for Cystic Fibrosis in Australia. Over the years, I’ve participated in many awareness-raising campaigns, from selling raffle tickets and roses to writing — lots of writing!
