Summary

The website content emphasizes that learning disability is not a disease but a difference in learning abilities that can be improved with help and understanding.

Abstract

The article titled "It Is Not A Disease" clarifies a common misconception about learning disabilities. It asserts that such disabilities are not diseases but rather reflect variations in individuals' learning capabilities. The author, a Special Educator with a three-year career, shares personal insights into the struggles faced by those with learning disabilities, who may be misunderstood as throwing tantrums or labeled with a disease. The piece underscores the importance of support and love in helping individuals with learning disabilities excel and make changes in their learning processes. It also touches on the frustration of not being accepted or understood by others, despite the desire and effort to improve. The author advocates for a shift in perspective, suggesting that with appropriate assistance, individuals can overcome perceived limitations, much like anyone can improve in areas they find challenging.

Screaming for freedom These labels kill me They call it a disease Which I never wanted

I can’t read in small letters I can’t remember a lot of instructions I can’t do math’s problem But it is not a disease

I need you help I need your love I can do better I can make changes

You don’t understand me You want me to accept you But you never change a little bit Then you say I throw tantrums

I never wanted this I never liked this I never accepted this I never throw tantrums

You just don’t accept me.

During 3 years of my career as a Special Educator, I have seen my people calling Learning disability a disease but trust me it is NOT a disease. It is something like you are good at Maths and somebody is good at English but with some help, you can be good at English and the other person can be good at Maths.

When I first read the prompt of James G Brennan. This was the first thing that came in my mind because parents come to me and say my child is just throwing a tantrum and is not doing work or writing something weird and some people are saying he/she has some kind of disease. So I thought I will share it with all of you guys.

Thanks for tagging me in your incredible work James G Brennan.

A little something about me.
