The Ocean Knocks
a free verse poem response to Zach J. Watson’s never-ending poem prompt “Ocean”

The sea came abruptly banging On our door giving us an almighty fright! When we did not answer She unexpectedly let herself in, Not quietly, as she belligerently Knocked over anything in her way, She, in fact, made quite a mess To our un-nerving surprise.
This is not her normal behaviour, She seems angry, lashing out As a child would, not getting their own way. Only, she is big and strong, More like an overdeveloped teenager Having an episode, A strong young rugby player in a scrum With their parents over school.
Whoever is in her way will feel her wrath. And here she is, we are in her way.
I suspect the wind is behind her behaviour.
This piece is in response to Zach J. Watson’s prompt “Ocean”

Thank you, Dr Mehmet Yildiz and the Illumination team for giving my words a platform. Thank you for reading. J.
