Israel Wants The US Back In The Region

Israel and America have good ties when it comes to a social aspect and an economic aspect. Still, Israel, which has a population of just over 9 million, would like to see more American military forces in the region. Relations between Israel and America grew stronger after America pulled out of UNESCO. America had pulled out of UNESCO on the basis that it was anti-Israel. UNESCO had voted to include Palestine as a member state back in 2011, and after that, the United States stopped funding UNESCO.
Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, had praised the United States for its decision. Israel had pulled out of UNESCO, calling the organization a joke. The United States now owes 550 million dollars in back payments to UNESCO. Israel has now recognized the move made by the United States. Israel has bashed UNESCO and the United Nations over their role in acknowledging the Palestinians. Israel does not want Israel’s holy sites to be acknowledged as Palestinian heritage sites.
In January, Jake Sullivan met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in order to make decisions about Israel’s defense against Iran. Later in the month, the United States Forces did training exercises and apparently simulated an attack on Iran’s nuclear facility. This had been one of Israel’s largest military drills and was completed with the use of 140 jets, bombers, and other aircraft. 6,500 Israeli troops were present at the drill.
Just last week, Israel’s Antiquities Authority and other Israeli diplomats met at a conference at the UN. It was unlikely that Israel was going to meet with Saudi diplomats, but they were. But they did have a confrontation, and the two parties spoke about diplomatic ties. Saudi Arabia would like Israel to settle the Palestinian conflict. There have been multiple conflicts between Palestine and Israel, and Saudi Arabia is still concerned about these incidents.
After the US had basically fully pulled out of the Middle East, Israel was still looking at the potential threat of Iran. Iran is definitely a big threat in the region, and neighboring countries like Yemen and Saudi Arabia are looking at Iran as a threat. Saudi Arabia has not had good relations with Iran since 1979. Now, Iran is trying to close ties with Saudi Arabia. In March, China and some other countries tried to get Saudi Arabia to sign peace ties with Iran.
Still, Iran poses itself as a threat. Iran might revive its nuclear projects and become much more of a threat to the world. Saudi Arabia is also trying to obtain nuclear material and wants the US to help it do so. Saudi Arabia could use nuclear material in order to make nuclear reactors for power or for other purposes. Saudi Arabia has never had such good ties with Israel, and that is diminished by Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians. The only reason Saudi Arabia would want to partner with Israel is to get the US back into the region.
Israel is interested in partnering with Saudi Arabia, partly for economic ties and such. Israel could possibly make itself more powerful in the world economy, and right now it is growing. Israel most notably fears the threat of Iran and wants to get the US back into the region in order to make that threat go away.
