Is The “Great Medium Purge” Over?
What the hell happened anyway?
I did not realize this yesterday as it was happening but Medium has decided to ban tons of accounts without notice.
I had just started writing down the number of followers 2 days ago and have noticed that my already slim follower count got even smaller. I just thought maybe they were follow-then-unfollow’ers who did that in hopes of inflating their follower count. (No hate, it’s all good by me.)
This morning, I came across a few posts about writers who were banned from Medium yesterday and I am in shock.
All I could think of as I read about what I call — the “Great Purge” was: “Geez, it’s about time to kick the bots off this place for good!”
I’ve been getting a few replies from various bots daily for weeks now and have gotten tired of reporting them. Maybe Medium finally decided to do something about these scam accounts?
Turns out, they banned one of my favorite writers Ryan Canady, who is obviously NOT A BOT. I found out about Ryan’s account from another writer’s comment.
Heartbroken, I typed in Ryan’s name and saw that his account had been deactivated…
Soon after my dismay, a spam bot left a reply under one of the comments asking me to join them somewhere off-site…
I am not a happy camper today and this is my first time feeling this way being on Medium. I’ve been back on Medium for 4 months now.
The community here is great, please don’t destroy it.
Please fix the confusion.
