Is it Just in America That Religion has Become Toxic?

Separation of Church and State exists for a reason

Our old house is filled with religious iconography from various world religions, including many crucifixes.

When we first moved in, I took a crucifix down from above our kitchen table, and my partner said something interesting to me:

Jesus was actually a cool dude, I don’t really have a problem with him.

Instead of taking the crucifix down completely, I moved it into the hallway.

I have been turning this over and over in my mind ever since.

I don’t have a problem with Jesus either.

What I have a problem with is Christians in America.

Religion is used too much in the US to persecute people. Take the recent repeal of Roe v. Wade. Or look at all the issues with transgender people trying to use the correct bathrooms.

Those are fueled by a misled version of Christianity in the US.

Jesus preached acceptance

He hung out with “tax collectors and sinners.” He told us, “Let he who is without sin throw the first stone.” He told us to “bless those who persecute you” and to “turn the other cheek.”

Does any of that sound like Christianity today in America?
