What is Unwritten Journal?

Have you ever started writing something and after a few minutes realized you won’t have a place to publish it? I certainly have!

With so many publications on Medium, there seems to be one for every niche. But what about journal entries we want to make public? What about our thoughts and feelings we want to put out there for people to read and relate to?

Sometimes we write things just to get the words out. For me, I journal because it’s one of the ways I can be brutally honest with myself. While I can ignore many fleeting thoughts throughout a given day, I can’t deny those thoughts and feelings once they’re written down for my eyes to see.

The Unwritten Journal’s mission is to provide a platform for all of that. For the words and thoughts that didn’t have a place in some of your other stories published elsewhere. For the things you want to say that may not get accepted to other publications because they don’t align with the niche or don’t have an obvious thesis.

What We Publish

Many of the stories I’ve read about being successful on Medium mention that each post you publish should have a purpose. But what if the purpose is merely to get something off our chest? What if we just want to share an experience we had recently that inspired us to write? What if we just want to write about something to share it with our readers?

In my opinion, there doesn’t always have to be a purpose. The inspiration to write it is enough of a purpose to be valuable. The best stories are ones that come from deep within us, things that happened to us, situations we’ve been through, feelings we’ve felt, and thoughts we’ve had.

Which is why I’ve created this publication, dedicated to the thoughts, feelings, and experiences that remained unwritten…until now. Just like a real journal, we want this publication to be filled with unique, journal-like entries that tell us a story, no matter what it is. Oh, and poetry is welcome!
