You don’t have to be mad but it helps!

I would like to take the opportunity to say hello and tell you a little bit about me, as behind every writer lies a true story, a person with hopes and dreams.
I have been involved in the Performing Arts sector virtually my whole life. I attended a Performing Arts school as a teenager and from there performed myself, as well as teaching vocationally. I then moved to choreography and teaching in the compulsory education sector. I’ve had experience in the industry which includes, Theatre, Television and Film work, as well as community based projects.
In 2005 I decided to take my love of the Arts further and attended Roehampton University gaining a First-Class Honours degree in Drama, Theatre and Performance combined with Dance Studies. I then took this to the next level and gained my Professional Graduate Certificate of Further and Higher Education in both genres.
I have worked with children and adults of all ages throughout my teaching career. I’ve taught all age groups vocationally and many of my students have gone on to study at drama schools such as Guildford School of Acting. Coupled with this I have coached students who now work in professional theatre, television and film. I have a passion for encouraging the most self-doubting student as well as extending the learning of the most able.
In 2016 I furthered my experience in teaching to international students aged 16 to 19 years, wishing to apply to English Universities. For these students both English and Drama lessons were compulsory as it helped to develop confidence in oral English. The course was a four-week intensive summer school culminating in a musical performance. The range of nationalities were diverse from Chinese to Russian and a personal challenge to inspire and encourage a love of drama to such a variety of students.
My passion for The Arts has run through my veins my whole life and coupled with this is a love of sharing knowledge, enciting interest and humour, as a Drama teacher you don’t have to be mad but it helps!
You therefore won’t be surprised if most of my stories relate to the Arts and Literature, setting them in a historical or contemporary context, analysing and drawing meaning from the text. An example of one of my most popular stories was drawn from a ‘spark’ ignited by reading John Steinbeck’s, Of Mice and Men whilst still at school, that still resonates with me today:
The pandemic has opened my eyes to a whole new world of opportunity and rekindled my love of writing which had become buried under the daily grind. I was lucky enough to get curated quite early on and didn’t actually realise as a novice to Medium, that this was a huge accomplishment. I would especially like to say thank you to Dr Mehmet Yildiz for picking me out from the crowd and inviting me to join Illumination Curated. And so my journey continues…
