You’ve never said it but I know it broke your heart when we up and married in Hawaii. You let us live with you, but I knew you were hurt. About me

Introducing Jamie Golob

Writer. Artist. Creative.

Image compliments of the author

Welcome friends, followers, fellow lovers of words, and seekers of truths! My name is Jamie and I’m a writer here on Medium since August of 2020. I noticed several other contributors sharing a bit about themselves and have quite enjoyed getting to know some of my favorite writers on a deeper level. I’d like to join the introductions!

My background

I suppose you might call me a lifelong learner. I attended college a total of ten whopping years. I loved every minute of it and I still take random courses whenever I’m able.

I completed my Bachelor’s of Fine Arts, Master’s of Visual Communications, three years of study in classical drawing and figure painting at an Atelier as an apprentice, Usui Reiki certification program, and nearly completed a Master's of Public Administration and Leadership before deciding to dedicate myself to completing my first book.

What I adore

Teaching

Since my very first year attending college, I’ve taught. Teaching is an incredible experience and I’ve been genuinely honored to have mentored and shared in the passing of knowledge to students of all ages.

My courses have included the philosophy of painting, figure drawing, visual journaling, Reiki, writing, content creation, self-awareness, and the creative journey.

I set my teaching aside for several years after completing my master’s program to accept a position in beautiful sunny Florida as the Education Director for a thriving non-profit arts organization. Every single day there was a lovely exhausting joy. I met and recruited incredible talent from around the world, curated inspiring courses, coordinated county-wide festivals connecting the community with creatives, and participated in outreach programs using the arts to bring awareness to human trafficking, violence against women, and homelessness.

Writing and the visual arts

Drawing was my first love.

I lost my first drawing contest and was disqualified in grade school because they thought I had traced my submission.

I can duplicate any image to scale meticulously… I’ve just always been able to. I cried that day, and I remember my grandmother telling me that when I draw to draw for myself and not for the praise of others. I loved my grandmother, Ely, very much. I like to think she’s smiling down on me every time I finish a painting or an article.

Ely was a free spirit in a time when it wasn’t so readily accepted. She was a painter, a lover, and a poet straight from Poland.

I’d spend summers at her house. My grandparents had a tiny two-story in Detroit with an Olympic sized pool in the yard. It hardly fit, but my granddad bought it for Ely because she said she loved to swim, and he loved her.

I recall her swimming with me on a rainy night. We swam under the stars and floated on our backs letting the rain dance on our faces. Looking back now I’m sure we could have been struck by lightning and died. But we didn’t. We were perfectly crazy and wildly alive.

Books

I’ve always loved books.

I love the words in them, I love the feel of the paper between my fingers, I love the smell of fresh print, and I’m absolutely crazy about rummaging through old books at collectible shops. So, It only stands to reason that I fell in love with reading and writing.

People

I adore humanity. Of course, I suppose one would have to be utterly intrigued by the beauty, ugliness, honor, defeat, love, hardship, triumph, and everything else that makes us human in order to be a creator… an artist… a writer… a musician… a dancer. All of these are creators of record. We translate ethereal, the very spirit of what it means to be alive into something tangible, to be shared and enjoyed by all.

We create, we document, so that we may all learn and grow.

Truth

I love seeking truths. My fascination with truth in spirituality started me on a long and winding path beginning with the age-old practice of Reiki and the art of energetic healing. I study and have written prolifically on the science and beliefs related to ancient sacred sites, crystals, meditation, and holistic health.

My current work

Most days you’ll find me tapping away at my keyboard. I’m thoroughly enjoying my journey on Medium and meet awesome new folks here every day. I write for multiple hard copy magazines, online publications, am a published author, and offer virtual courses on writing and the healing arts.

Thank you for peeking in… I hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know me. If you share in my passions you can sign up to follow me on my blog livingwanderfully.com.
