Introducing Beloved: Publication Guidelines and Call For Submissions

Beloved is a publication where love equals diversity plus acceptance

Beloved is my latest publication on Medium. For months, I pondered my plan to introduce a more relational webzine about love and relationships on this publishing platform.

On May 21, I learned that one of the most relevant love-centric publications on Medium was shutting its doors in a surprising turn of events. Back then, several writers reached out with questions about what the future had in store for us after prominent publications suddenly fell under the radar.

At this point, there’s no straight answer, even if there’s reason to believe that the golden era of Medium publications seems to be behind us. However, I feel confident about building smaller indie writing communities across the platform on a wide variety of topics. Love is a rock, and by carrying its torch, we will prevail!

Hence, from that insight arises Beloved. Our motto is a token of Love. We believe in the mantra laid down by Lord Tennyson in his doleful elegy. Verses forever carved in stone and written out of sorrow for the loss of a beloved friend.

Thus, our mission is to offer a wide assortment of stories to our readers on meaningful topics, primarily focusing on the following:

Beloved is a fair-minded publication and a haven for diverse viewpoints and mindful opinions. We ask that our writers mainly seek to empower readers by sharing meaningful stories and raising awareness of our internal struggles and deepest feelings.

Call For Submissions

Beloved is now open for business! Hence, this is a call to all my fellow writers and friends and all the aspiring Belovers out there. We want to hear from you! Please consider submitting your stories and help us reach the level we aspire to as we strive to build a new community.

Beloved Stories

• As for all the publications on our roster, the most beloved story always comes from the heart. Hence we are looking for real core experiences, more than hearsay, indirect or impersonal writing;
• We like to think out-of-the-box, hence if you have a meaningful new approach to a topic, please share it with us;
• Creativity is gold for us. Hence, we favor unique mind-changeling stories;
• Belovers “write without fear” and “edit without mercy.”

Beloved Content Guidelines

Beloved abides by the Medium Member Content Rules and Guidelines; please make sure you have read them before submitting your story to us.

We despise plagiarism; hence please give proper credit to other authors while writing a story. Regarding cover photos and any other imagery, we recommend you use Unsplash built-in galleries.

If you cannot find a suitable picture, please make sure you are using a photo under a creative commons license. This is paramount for us, and we will look into this thoroughly.

Beloved abides by Medium’s Distribution Guidelines; please make sure you have read them before sending your story to us.

Beloved Submission Guidelines

Please remember that we prefer drafts, as we want to make sure your story gets all the exposure it deserves. This will also increase your chances of seeing it distributed across the platform (we might consider accepting a pre-published meaningful/ insightful story under editorial discretion).

All writers are treated equally under our umbrella to ensure that readers can access the best content available. Focusing on the reader means that we cannot publish all the stories our writers deliver.

When a draft isn’t quite ready to be published, we will follow up via private note. Afterward, we reserve the right to do minimal fine-tuning to your story. We will only do it to increase readability and make sure the story abides by our standards and Medium’s rules.

How to Join Beloved

Please send an email to [email protected] with your Medium handler, and Medium URL link, requesting to be added as a writer.

⚠️ Even if submitting a Medium story draft link for our consideration isn’t mandatory at this stage, including a draft up for submission will help us better understand your writing voice.
