Instead of mindlessly ripping into our gifts this year, we took our time…

Even though they’re adults, my kids LOVE opening presents and still want a Santa stocking. This year, I suggested we draw names out of a hat, and each was responsible for buying Santa gifts for their chosen person.

It was a worthwhile exercise as they realized how time-consuming and expensive it could be to buy just a few gifts.

When my daughter proposed a more meaningful approach to opening them, everyone agreed. Each unwrapping had an excited audience.

There were gag gifts and meaningful ones. We oohed, ahhed and giggled a good 2 hours away as we exchanged gifts while enjoying snacks and music.

There was an enormous pile of discarded paper at the end of it all, but it was the most enjoyable Christmas ever.

Both their presence and the presents were appreciated!
