Inspiration for Writing: Cycles of Hurt
I saw scenes in a series and remembered what happened to me and what I did later.

Beef, a Netflix series, wasn’t just funny. It exposed the raw nerve of childhood hurts and hopes.
In two gut-wrenching scenes, characters recalled when their parents stopped seeing them as magical kids. They were no longer adorable blessings.
This realization shifts how children see themselves. It can be seismic, causing fissures in our lives and relationships. The effects echo for decades.
In Beef, it drove characters to harm themselves and each other.
As a child, longing for that lost “specialness” made me pray for unknown, “real” parents to claim me. As a mother, I see the warped logic of using hurtful words. I used it to toughen my children — what a twisted form of love.
At this moment, my muse also delivers a song to my consciousness — Human, by The Human League.
… I’m only human Of flesh and blood, I’m made Human Born to make mistakes
These pathways back and forth through time — from TV, memories, my own life, and music — swirl together in this short story I birthed.
