Insensitive
A poem

Your hushed gaze intones my love spent in someone else’s song I can’t say how I feel so little now
We had heights and pain exquisite raw and warm coming in and leaving Your wistful heart conjuring tragedy in sway
The need to be wanted like fire or vice, diminishes all air seduces destruction in slow dance inflaming cool sense to abandon now nothing left but illogical agony of saying goodbye
Notes: Inspired by “Insensatez” (How Insensitive) written by Tom Jobim, performed by Stan Getz, Luiz Bonfá and vocals by Maria Toledo. The song was covered by many famous artists (most famously Sinatra), but Toledo’s voice has an intimate, hesitant quality of longing, indicative of bossa nova and the concept of saudade missed by others.
