Indifference
Why does it matter?

A response to a prompt from Joe Luca
Coming without being summoned As I go about daily tasks; preoccupied What do I care about today? Seemingly so little.
Oh, indifference, why do you inflict me So often, jumping up as the First, and sometimes only response To an average day in the life.
Indifferent to want Indifferent to need Is it because I simply cannot decide? Or, a defense against too many unacceptable choices.
Time is marked with peaks, Valleys interspersed between Is there meaning to be found? Or mere irrelevance.
Fraught with trivialities Life goes on each day Waiting for the next peak What does it matter what is done in the valley?
Are we gathering momentum, Or merely passing time? Oh, if not for you, indifference Perhaps I would know.
But does it really matter What I think; my dogma? Indifference takes no sides Favors no one.
Inconsequential, irrelevant Unconcerned. All manifestations Of the same doubts and insecurities That inflict us; one and all
Why should I be special, Noteworthy, praised? What makes me, alone A matter of consequence?
I am having trouble tracking who receives which prompts — or perhaps I am indifferent?😝 In any case, I am going to throw back the prompt Consequence to the same crowd. Think of it as a poetry jam circle.
