Abstract

The poem "In This Ocean" by an unnamed author paints a vivid picture of personal liberation and serenity found within the vastness of the sea. It begins with the narrator swimming past negative emotions, seeking solace in the ocean's expanse. The act of floating and becoming one with the water symbolizes a release from the chaos of life, as the narrator finds peace in the rhythmic breathing of the waves and the sensation of weightlessness. The poem emphasizes the healing power of nature, as the ocean's beauty dissolves regret and the heartbeat of the earth, represented by the ocean's ebb and flow, comforts the soul. The author concludes by acknowledging the ocean as a sanctuary and a place of solitude where one can be truly at home. In This Ocean

My landlocked soul can escape

I swim out past the anger Beyond stress and emotional decay

Arms reaching up, out, farther still My landlocked soul can escape

Lying back, I float Ears submerged, hearing nothing

One with the ocean, The waves breathe salt

Singular in motion Yet utterly motionless

Beyond the flotsam of yesterday The jetsam of what used to be

Astounding blue awakes my senses Regret can not exist in this beauty

This fluctuating ocean Earth’s heartbeat caressing my skin

Suspended, I drift alone In this ocean I call my home
