In the Chrysalis
Poem of people moving at different speeds in a relationship

that first day we lay in the sweet sunny grass and fashioned chains of dandelion stems, links that signified the growing strength of the tie between us, and yes, we lasted longer than those withering stems but not by much
I wanted to know what you saw in me what sparked your attraction so I could build on it, enhance it make you like me more
but I never knew and I even lost track of what I saw in you which was easy to do because you changed right before my eyes as though you sensed a substantive relationship and shed the carefree veneer you wore in those first days the frivolous, adventurous, playful you just a facet so quickly shed so you could move on to be an adult in all things
but as for me, I was still lying back in the sweet-smelling grass with the sun in my face in absolutely no hurry to move on wondering, Why the rush to grow up?
