POETRY
In Search of Stars
a free verse poem
Our hands slip together Let’s go for a walk, you say
The night sky a deep breath Full of stars, holding us
Two captive spirits, together free Beneath the drapery of stars, as horses
Untethered, wandering the fence Regarding us, regarding them
We sink our feet into puddles Unstick them from the rain and silt
Your headlamp bobs light, carving the dark Into slivers we can walk through
Our legs ache but the walk goes on To the road’s end where we circle
Stirring as a current this wide arc Retracing the graveled path toward home
