Impeachment Politics vs. Logic

Remove all emotion and politics, what is left?

Well, the House Democrats sent the articles of impeachment to the Senate. We must say Democrats since not one Republican voted for it. The impeachment against Bill Clinton was almost as partisan, but 5 Democrats voted for it.

Now, what are the grounds, after removing all the emotional and political hype?

The Scenario

  • You are elected President
  • You discover that the son of an opponent was placed by the prior administration as a consultant in the US Embassy to the Ukraine
  • He is paid $40,000 per month
  • Nobody knows what he does
  • You, as President, ask your counterpart in the Ukraine to find out

Any President, or CEO, would do the same thing, if they didn’t just fire him outright. That salary, if correct, is more than the starting salary of some teachers.

The Hype

For months, I feel that I have been reading supermarket tabloid headlines daily on MSN. Quotes attributed to the Democrats and the Trump administration. Speculation about the President’s thinking and goals. All kinds of “he said/she said” quotes, none provable or even relevant. I wouldn’t trust any testimony, on either side.

Trump himself

Before the election, I listed the one characteristic of each candidate that caused me the most concern. Clinton had already demonstrated hers. Trump has lived up to, or down to the disgusting level as projected after he took office. However, nothing in the scenario is cause for impeachment.

I saw a video before Trump was even sworn in calling for his impeachment. That, in itself, makes the whole thing look like a personal or political vendetta.

In my opinion, the Democrats had better come up with a lot more than they have made public, or they will appear just as dumb as the Republicans did when they impeached Bill Clinton for his sexual practices in the Oval Office.
