Summary

The author is experiencing a decrease in writing output on Medium but is still earning around $400 a day, attributing this success to previously published content that continues to drive traffic and a strategic focus on reader interest.

Abstract

The author shares a personal update on their Medium writing journey, revealing a recent struggle with writer's block due to health issues and life events, which has reduced their daily article output from 2–3 to just one. Despite this, their monthly earnings from Medium have surprisingly increased, now often exceeding 200 and even reaching 400 a day. This financial success is attributed to a combination of a backlog of published articles that continue to attract readers and a shift in content strategy to cater to topics that interest Medium's audience, thereby maximizing story reads and earnings. The author expresses gratitude for their current financial gains and aims to regain inspiration to increase their writing frequency. They also invite readers to reflect on their own Medium writing experiences and offer a call to action for supporting their work by becoming Medium members.

I’m writing on Medium less than last month

But, I’m still making $400 a day

I wrote a few weeks ago about making $125 per day on Medium, producing around 2–3 published articles daily.

Since then, I feel a bit of writers block coming on, if I’m being honest.

It happens sometimes.

Last month, the ideas were just pouring in. Everyday I could jot down up to 10 different story ideas and write them throughout the week.

Since then, I’ve battled a bad sinus infection, had dental work, a TMJ flare, and other life stuff that just happens sometimes.

Anyway, it’s really thrown me off and I struggle to write one published article daily now.

My goal with Medium is to:

  • Publish 2 to 3 stories per day
  • Always have a stock of written content that I can publish at a moments notice
  • Publish to publications and self-publish (my favorites are Better Marketing, Start it Up, Side Hustle Club, Writers Blokke, and Illumination)

That first point (2–3 stories daily) is where I’ve been slacking.

I’m still at it though and I won’t give up.

The funny thing is, I’m making more money on Medium now, than ever.

Making $400 a day on Medium

Previously I was earning around $125 per day and that was on a good day. I was happy to land $80 daily, which is remarkable in my opinion.

But, this month, I’m hovering closer to $200 a day on most days with a few days out of the week (including yesterday) making around $400 for the day!

I am shocked.

And, super grateful.

How is this happening?

I guess having a stock of published content on Medium helps.

Those old articles that I wrote last week and last month are still getting traffic.

I try to link to my content in every story I publish so my old Medium stories can keep getting fresh traffic to them even after they’ve slowed down.

How to make the most money on Medium?

I try to write interesting content.

Previously I just wrote about my experience, side hustles I’ve tried, case studies I’ve done, etc.

Now, I’m shifting my thinking and considering what Medium readers would find interesting.

Because your story reads are what make you money, with internal views paying more than external views.

My strategy is paying off so far.

Hoping to get some inspiration to write more soon but, at least I’m publishing a few stories throughout the week.

It’s better than nothing.
