I’m going back to Japan via Beijing and then on to Hong Kong!
Just a Blog

I am going back to Japan next month. I booked a flight ticket from Montreal to Osaka via Beijing the other day and today I bought tickets from Osaka to Hong Kong.
I go back to Japan around this time of the year most years and I have to go to Hong Kong this year to update my permanent resident status. I lived in Hong Kong for nearly ten years and I got a permanent resident card which allows me to live, work or establish a company if I want to in Hong Kong.
It took seven years for me to get it and so I want to keep it as long as possible. What is handy is that it is valid as long as I enter into Hong Kong at least once every 36 months, even if it’s just a transit. My deadline will be in December. That’s why I want to go there this time.
When I told my mum that I needed to go to Hong Kong, she was anxious because of the situation there. She said, “Are you really sure that you want to go there this time? You know what is happening now, don’t you? It sounds crazy!” I said, “I don’t think it is ideal either, but I have to go mum.” I was initially going to ask her if she would want to come with me to Hong Kong, but she sounded pretty worried. Still, I asked her, just in case, “So, maybe you wouldn’t like to come with me, will you?” She said, “Oh yeah. I could come with you,” surprisingly.
Therefore, I am going to Hong Kong with my mother. I booked two tickets with a Low Cost Carrier (LCC), Peach Aviation — from Kansai international airport (KIX) to HKG.
By the way, my flight from Montreal to Osaka is via Beijing and the transit time is more than one day so I have to stay one night. I booked a hotel in Beijing too with my air mile points.
The mileage system with ANA is not straightforward. It is not like most of the other airlines’ mileage system. The air mile points will expire after three years after you got them. Because some of my mileage points will be terminated the end of this month, I booked a hotel with points.
At the same time, I thought of booking hotels in Hong Kong for this short trip with my air miles. However, there seem to be lots of hotels there offering special prices. It is a bargain time for tourists in Hong Kong now. Therefore, I will book the accommodation with one of these special offers not with my air mile points.
I am just hoping that everything, including the airport and metro, will function properly when we get there. I really hope so!
