I’m a Reader, and I Didn’t Get the $500 Bonus

It’s not fair

Do you know how many claps I gave last month?

Any idea how witty and numerous my comments were?

Not to mention reading time. I had dozens of hours of reading time logged.

And yet, I didn’t get any bonus. ZERO. NADA.

As my five-year-old would say, it’s not fair.

I’ll keep this rant short as I’m a reader, not a writer. But there are a few things you need to know.

When I clap, I mean it.

I’m not a fellow writer trying to lure you into checking their profile and clapping for their articles. If I were, I would put some links here and there. I don’t do that.

I might be guilty of clapping only once from time to time, but when I clap, I mean it.

Doesn’t it deserve to be rewarded (with a bonus)?

When I comment, I’m always starting a discussion.

One doesn’t simply comment: “Great read. Fantastic article. Interesting piece.”

One shares thoughts, emotions, and anecdotes from their life with the writer.

One gives the writer ideas for their future articles in the comment section.

Doesn’t it deserve to be rewarded (with a sizable bonus)?

When I read, I read. I don’t skim.

Yes, I put in the time. I delight in your every word. I laugh at the puns. I even scroll back to the beginning and read the introduction one more time.

I don’t miss any of the gems you sweated and cried out of your writer’s block.

I’m grateful you edited your piece. (For those of you who don’t, please do.)

Doesn’t it deserve to be rewarded (with a respectable bonus)?

When I follow, I don’t expect any follow back.

That one might not be clear to everybody here as I’ve got 237 followers even though I never wrote any article. I guess they believe in me and want to show their support.

That one’s on me, no need to give me a bonus.

When I follow a new writer, I scroll back to their old articles.

Do you ever wonder what happens to your old articles?

Ask me. I’ve been there. I’ve read them. I’m the one who clapped one year after it was published.

Wasn’t it the best surprise ever?

Doesn’t it deserve to be rewarded (with a hefty bonus)?

Final words

Ask yourself this question: Who Are Your Heroes?

Take your time to answer: readers.

Done?

Good.

Since readers are your heroes, shouldn’t they be the ones to get the bonus next month?
