If You’re Struggling in Life, Read This
I’ve been there. Overwhelmed, upset and despairing, struggling to keep my head above the water.
We all have these times, some worse than others.
All I want to do is lie in bed, sleep and forget all my problems. It’s the days when we are constantly thinking:
Nothing is going right. I suck at everything. Everyone hates me. I want to quit.
I know that feeling. Don’t lose all hope. There’s a way, trust me. I’ve found that doing these few things helps me get out of a slump.
Sometimes the smallest of actions can make the biggest difference.
Be Strong
Feeling sorry for ourselves is useless. 1 million ‘if onlys’ and ‘what ifs’ won’t fix your problems. It just wastes time.
You are not weak.
You can do anything. As Dr. Seuss once said,
You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes, you can steer yourself in any direction you choose — Dr Seuss
You haven’t failed. There are a thousand other things you’re great at, even if you don’t think so. You might’ve made a mistake, just learn from it. Better to learn it now than later.
You’re strong enough to overcome this.
Mindfulness
Close your eyes.
Breathe in, and breathe out. Let your mind wander.
Notice how you feel, and try to understand why. Don’t judge yourself, just accept that you feel that way.
Listen to your surroundings, and feel the air against your skin, and the ground on your feet.
Calming yourself down is important, plus it only takes a few minutes.
Perspective
There are an estimated 200 000 000 000 000 galaxies in the universe. That’s 14 zeros. We’re only in one of them.
We’re tiny. So tiny.

That’s us. Every single human lived on that dot.
Every hero, coward, leader, follower and explorer. Everyone you love, every mother and father, everyone who ever was, lived on that dot.
In the grand scheme of things, our colossal problems aren’t so colossal anymore. No matter what happens, the Earth will keep revolving around the Sun. Life will go on.
The moon is so small it might look like a speck of dust on your screen.
Clean
Organise your desk or sweep the floor.
Starting to do something productive is a great way to make yourself feel better. Cleaning is also relaxing.
Listen to your thoughts. Maybe things aren’t as bad as they seem.
Go For A Walk
No headphones in your ears. Just walk.
Feel the earth beneath your feet and hear the sounds around you. Observe the beauty around you.
It might feel hard right now. But it’s just moving your two legs. If you’re not strong enough to do that, how can you overcome much bigger challenges?
Write A Plan
What will you do tomorrow? Make it a productive day.
Write out small things you want to do. It could be making your bed, or cooking a small dinner for yourself.
Then go do those things. A plan gives you control over your life.
Life is made up of the tiniest actions, and you have the choice of which actions you take. Which ones will bring you closer to your goals, and which ones distract you from them?
Final Thoughts
All the highs and lows will eventually pass.
Be grateful for every wonderful moment you have, and cherish the times you feel on top of the world.
Power through the toughest times. There are thousands of great people, stories and times ahead!
