If You Want People To Ignore Your Writing, Do This.

Works like a charm.

I love receiving responses to my articles on Medium.

The community here is incredibly supportive, and engaging with other writers is a real joy. I’m trying to do it more consistently this month, too.

However, there’s one kind of response I really don’t enjoy getting.

In fact, it’s guaranteed to make me avoid the sender altogether.

The Copy N’ Paste Bro

I’m sure you’ll get this one soon too (if you haven’t already).

“Hey, great story! I’d love it if you could visit my profile and read my latest pinned post! Thanks!”

Or something like that.

Just a generic, copy-and-pasted comment that’s undoubtedly been posted on dozens of Medium articles that day already.

And guess what I never, ever do after reading a response like that?

Take action on it.

If you haven’t bothered to actually read my article (or even if you have, and you clearly only did it so I’d reciprocate and read yours), there’s pretty much zero chance I’m going to check out your pinned post.

Sorry, copy n’ paste bro.

Do This Instead

If you want fellow Medium users to read your writing:

  1. Write valuable content offering at least one learning opportunity per story.
  2. Leave your two cents on other articles without asking for reciprocation.
  3. Do points 1 and 2 consistently and with ever-increasing quality.

It’s the best way to ensure your writing doesn’t get intentionally ignored.

Before you go:
