If You Are Looking to Appreciate Life…

Take your cues from the scents in life that give you comfort.

The scent of freshly baked bread coming out of the oven.

The scent of freshly brewed coffee.

The scent of a freshly cut watermelon.

These scents bring me comfort and pleasure, as I’m sure they do for many others.

Now it’s your turn.

Think of what scents gives you pleasure.

Then close your eyes and imagine the smells coming back into your mind, and you may or may not notice that smile come across your face right away.

The other day, I was on a popular social media platform when a channel came across my personal page that showed popular scent-filled items from my childhood in the 80s.

A popular cherry lip gloss, fruit and flower scented stickers, markers, cabbage patch dolls, and other items symbolic of the times.

I was immediately transported back into the past and could imagine holding these items, but more importantly, recalling the beautiful scents and simple pleasures these items brought to me.

I wasn’t alone.

Many of those who commented reflected on how they felt when imagining touching these same items — one even claimed the items presented brought tears to her eyes.

Perhaps the tears were for a time gone by, or perhaps it was missing the simple pleasures these scents brought to mind.

As these items remained in our childhood experiences as scents we will never forget.

The Power of a Scent

The power of an attractive scent lies within the individual who deems the scent to be attractive.

Let’s take a look at the power of a scent when it comes to eggs — and what the scent really represents.

Some people can’t stand the smell of eggs, while others find themselves salivating at the smell of them.

And in saying that, people must also recognize the power an attractive scent holds over them and try not to lose control of their senses or actions when trying to remain close to this scent.

If we deem freshly cooked eggs to be an attractive scent, we can’t overindulge in the consumption of the eggs otherwise we find ourselves facing physical and mental problems.

So we must take care in preserving what scents we hold dear to us for fear of it one day leaving us because of how we decided to handle it or decided to no longer show appreciation for it.

But what does an attractive scent represent to us humans?

It represents what we hold dear.

When all other aspects in our live seem to be fading away or challenging us physically or emotionally — we can always recall this scent and the beauty it brings to our mind, body, and soul.

Now let’s talk about coffee!

Coffee is another example of a scent people associate with being alive. It helps adults get the energy they need to get through the day.

The scent of freshly brewed coffee in an office setting can do wonders for those sitting at their cubicles!

Most adults, including yours truly, appreciate life just a little bit more after that morning cup of coffee!

Appreciating Life Through Scents

When we come to admire a scent, we will not look to judge in what form it takes in bringing us pleasure but simply admire everything about it.

In doing so we come to appreciate the freedom it brings to our life. The freedom from every day struggles we may face.

We may not appreciate life if we don’t see anything of value.

The old expression “stop and smell the roses” reminds us to take the time to enjoy things we often ignore.

Our sense of what makes a scent attractive to us is something we may often ignore.

So take the time to acknowledge to yourself and then to those around you of scents you find attractive, and you may just find how your mood and the mood of those around you change for the better.

Final Thoughts…

The one final but important thought I have towards scents in our life is that they have they ability to shift our moods for better or worse.

Humans often attach emotions to what they smell as they learn to judge.

If we find the scent attractive, we judge the item, person, or event to be worth our time, and our mood becomes more pleasurable to us and those around us — bringing us all a sense of freedom.

If not, we find our mood gets worse, and we cast negative judgement even if others around us seem to find the scent to be attractive — whereby we begin to encroach on others’ sense of freedom.

So we must take care of the actions we choose to take in response to the scents around us.

We must instead learn to appreciate life by taking the cues from the scents that give us pleasure and comfort and a sense of security with imagined its wings to let you fly — whereby giving you your own sense of freedom in seeing the world around you.
